Service Volume and Financial Resources

During 2009, CHC provided 155,066 medical and dental visits to 47,620 patients.  44% of our total patient population is uninsured.

While CHC has been a recipient of federal funds from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Bureau of Primary Health Care, these funds have by no means kept pace with growing needs or economic changes within the healthcare industry. Total revenue has grown from $11,778,760 in 2000-2001 to $28,066,687 in 2010-2011.  Yet federal grant funding dropped from 32% to 23% of our total operating revenue.

The balance of our funding comes from Medicaid, public and private insurance programs, and Medicare; patient payments; state and county service contracts; local grants; and group and individual donations.

Governance and Administration

Community Health Centers, Inc. is governed by a seventeen member Board of Directors.  The Center’s bylaws and federal program regulation require that at least 51% of the Board be recipients of the Center’s services.  The Chief Executive Officer reports to the Board of Directors and is primarily responsible for the day-to-day operations of the corporation.  Total administrative expenses last year were approximately 13% of total expenses and included accounting, patient business office, MIS, human resources, medical management, quality assurance, and a range of other supportive services.
