Flu Symptoms To Know

Flu season is upon us; have you received your annual flu shot? Influenza is a contagious respiratory illness caused by influenza viruses. It can cause mild to severe illness and at times lead to death. Receiving a flu shot early during the influenza season does not pose a significant risk that immunity might decrease before the end of the season. Protecting yourself from the flu by receiving the flu shot also helps to protect those around you. And remember to help prevent the spread of all infections by careful hand washing.

The 2013-2014 influenza season was moderately severe compared to the 2012-2013 season.

Influenza comes from the Italian language ” influence ” and refers to the cause of the disease, originally thought to be “influenced” by the stars! Older terms for influenza include “grippe” (French), ” sweating sickness” and “Spanish fever”.
