The Importance of Routine Immunizations and Childhood Vaccines

August is National Immunization Awareness Month. This is an important time to remember the importance of vaccines in our lives. Vaccines help us build immunity which serves a defense against serious infections. It is because of immunizations that the lives of countless children and adults are saved from fatal and serious infections. Vaccines are tested prior to introduction to the public to make sure they are safe and effective.

As Generally Recommended By the CDC

The Flu Vaccine

Flu is a contagious respiratory illness caused by influenza viruses that infect the nose, throat, and sometimes the lungs. It can cause mild to severe illness, and at times can lead to death. Flu vaccine is an important yearly immunization recommended for everyone 6 months and older to get during the fall and winter seasons. It will soon be available for Fall of 2022.

COVID-19 Vaccines

The world has struggled with COVID-19 Pandemic since spring of 2020. Prior to the COVID-19 vaccine being available, there were high rates of mortality and serious illness. Due to the COVID-19 vaccines, there have been decreased rates of hospitalization, death and severe illness. COVID-19 vaccines are now available for 6 months and older.

Healthcare professionals are the most valued and trusted source of health information for children and adults. If you have any questions or concerns about which vaccine is recommended for you or your family, reach out to your healthcare provider.

Most of these vaccines are available at Community Health Centers, which will also have the Flu vaccine early fall for the influenza season 2022.
