Get Ready to Apply for 2023 Coverage During the Open Enrollment Period

If you’re planning to get health insurance coverage for 2023, the open enrollment period is the time to do it. Open enrollment for 2023 coverage starts on November 1, 2022, and runs through January 31, 2023. During open enrollment, you can find out what health plans are available in your area and enroll in the one that best meets your needs. If you don’t enroll in a health plan during open enrollment, you may have to wait until the next open enrollment period to get coverage unless there is a special circumstance.

Free Enrollment Help from a Certified Marketplace Navigator or a Certified Application Counselor

Certified Marketplace Navigators provide in-person help to consumers and small businesses with enrollment in the Health Insurance Marketplace. They are required to complete annual training and pass a test on the federal marketplace, which is administered by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS). Certified Marketplace Navigators can answer questions about the marketplace, help consumers compare plans, and assist with enrollment.

What is ACA open enrollment?

The Affordable Care Act (ACA) open enrollment is the only time of year when you can sign up for or change your health insurance plan unless you qualify for a special enrollment period. If you’re happy with your current plan, you can keep it during open enrollment. But it’s a good idea to check out other plans because premiums and benefits can change from year to year.

Would ACA subsidies lower your health insurance premiums?

The Affordable Care Act (ACA) provides subsidies to help lower your health insurance premiums. If you are eligible for a subsidy, you may qualify for savings of up to $4,200 in 2023. To qualify for a subsidy, you must enroll in a health insurance plan through the ACA Marketplace.

I Missed Open Enrollment Deadline. Can I Still Get Healthcare Coverage?

If you miss the open enrollment deadline for healthcare coverage, you may still be able to get coverage through a special enrollment period. To qualify for a special enrollment period, you must have experienced a qualifying life event, such as losing your job or getting married. If you do not qualify for a special enrollment period, you will have to wait until the next open enrollment period to get coverage.

Other benefits may be available

There may be other benefits available to you through your coverage, insurance, or disability plan. Be sure to check with a marketplace Navigator to see what savings, health insurance, and cost-sharing options are available to you. In some cases, you may be able to get free or low-cost health care through government programs.
